Donohue & Associates and the City of Stevens Point received an Engineering Excellence State Finalist Award for the “Brewing a Better Future Together” project from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Wisconsin. The awards for Engineering Excellence are bestowed upon member firms in recognition of quality engineering achievements. Project entries are judged on the basis of excellence in design, the degree to which the client’s needs are met, as well as benefit to the public welfare and to engineering practices.

Stevens Point WWTP 500x375“How can we treat our waste in a safe, sustainable, and cost-effective manner?” That was the question that led the Stevens Point Brewery and the City of Stevens Point to form a partnership for a brewery high-strength waste receiving station and force main. Donohue designed a solution that utilizes brewery waste to feed the City’s anaerobic digesters. Both parties are reaping the benefits with significant savings; the brewery saves on labor costs and the City saves on electrical usage because of the reduced organic loading to its aeration system.
